A laborer works with his hands; a craftsman with his head and hands; an artist, with his head, hands and heart.

--St. Francis of Assisi.

Lyuba Tetovets, a Russian immigrant and talented artist, cradles her child.

Artists can help us find, lose ourselves

We sometimes lose ourselves in art. Which of us has not strolled the halls
of a museum, marveling at the works,
and lost all track of time?

We sometimes find ourselves in art. It
reminds us of all that is enduring in our
world. Leonardo is gone; Mona Lisa
remains with us. Louie Armstrong has
left us, but his recording of 'What a
Wonderful World' is still ours to
enjoy. This is the true value of art. It
offers its practitioners immortality.

Above, Mark Alexander, professor at the University of Texas at El Paso, says people want to be artists to express themselves. Top right, Lyn Johnson's art is a mix of many mediums. Above, Jud and Laurie Burgess are family oriented, and Jud's art reflects this.
