Andy Korus, 84, World War II veteran, was a U.S. Army infantryman who fought in Italy, France and Germany.
Abel Ortega Sr. walked in the Bataan Death March and was liberated from the Maibara prison camp in 1945. John E. Olson also survived the Bataan Death March and has written several books about his experiences.
Liz Irving was a civilian prisoner of the Japanese in the Philippines during WWII. She was a teenager whose parents were schoolteachers. She was held at the Santo Tomas internment camp, which was liberated on Feb. 3, 1945. The drawing was sketched for her by a fellow prisoner on Christmas Day 1943.

I have a deep interest in World War II and its veterans. My own father is a veteran of the South Pacific campaigns. I gladly accepted the assignment to photograph some San Antonio area vets. The photos are done in each of their homes. I used an Olympus C-5050Z digial camera on the shoot, and lit each subject with an Alien Bees strobe with a honeycomb. This Olympus camera syncs with flash at up to 1/1000 of a second, which allowed for the backgrounds in these shots to go completely dark.
